ANKARA, Nov 21 (AFP) - Some 5,000 people staged a protest Sunday in southeastern Turkey to denounce the US military assault on the Iraqi city of Fallujah, the Anatolia news agency reported.
Answering a call by a civil servants' labor union to "denounce American imperialism," protesters burned US and Israeli flags during the march in Siverek, Anatolia said.
Turkey, a secular state with a large Muslim majority, last year refused to allow US forces to use its territory as a launchpad for an invasion of Iraq.
The vast majority of Turks remain opposed to the US military presence in Iraq.
