Kostelic crushes rivals in World Cup slalom finale
Croatian ski sensation Janica Kostelic confirmed her dominance in the women's Alpine Skiing circuit when she won the final World Cup slalom race of the season.
A day after claiming her third overall World Cup title, the 24-year-old set the fastest times in both slalom runs for a combined 1min 45.28sec to finish 0.87sec ahead of Austria's Marlies Schild.
Olympic slalom champion Anja Parson had to settle for third on front of her home crowd 1.06sec behind.
It was the eighth World Cup win this season for Kostelic who had already clinched the overall World Cup slalom title and the 29th of her career.
Kostelic won three slaloms this season and finished on the podium in all nine slalom events.
Parson finishes third in the World Cup slalom but is now assured of finishing runner-up behind Kostelic in the overall World Cup standings of all disciplines combined.
Four-time Olympic champion Kostelic defended her combined title at the Turin Games. She also won gold in the slalom and the giant slalom events at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, and holds five world titles.
