ANKARA - ''Energy'' will be one of the main agenda topics of the 56th meeting of Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission (JPC) that will be held in Turkish parliament between May 3rd and 5th.
Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission Co-Chairman Aydin Dumanoglu told A.A. correspondent that at the meeting, Turkey will express it state policy to become an ''energy corridor''.
Stating that Europe would purchase its energy need from the Middle East and Central Asia, Dumanoglu said the most safe and cheap shipping way would be the pipelines that will pass via Turkey.
Dumanoglu said the pipelines would be longer and more expensive in case the Middle East and Central Asia oil and natural gas do not pass over Turkey, stating that particularly shipping from the straits was dangerous for Turkey.
Dumanoglu said, ''Turkey wants to be at the (negotiation) table when energy policy is discussed. It does not want to be a country only where pipelines pass.''
Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc will make opening remarks of the meeting on Wednesday.
State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan, Ambassador Hansjorg Kretschmer --Head of the Delegation of the European Commission--, Turkey-EU JPC Co-President Joost Lagendijk and several other officials will deliver speeches during the meeting.
Participants will focus on ''Turkey-EU relations and accession talks'' in the first session of the meeting.
