BAGHDAD - Insurgents killed at least 32 people across Iraq on Thursday, 24 of them members of the war-ravaged country's fledgling security forces, security officials said.
Gunmen killed six policemen when they opened fire on a police station in Baghdad's upscale Mansur district, a security official said.
One policeman was also wounded in the attack on the Al-Khadra police station.
Three policemen attached to the ministry of electricity were killed when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in southern Baghdad's notorious Sunni district of Al-Dura.
In a separate strike in Baghdad, insurgents set off a car bomb in a market in the capital's northwestern Shiite neighbourhood of Al-Hurriyah, killing two people and wounding eight more, the official said.
Insurgents often target markets in Baghdad to cause maximum civilian casualties.
A roadside bomb also went off in east Baghdad killing three and wounding another four.
Insurgents have managed to carry out high-profile attacks in Baghdad despite the presence of more than 30,000 US and Iraqi troops as part of a security crackdown in the capital since mid-June.
Elsewhere in the war-torn country, seven Iraqi soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in the former rebel bastion town of Fallujah, west of Baghdad.
Iraqi army captain Mohammed Fayad said four soldiers were killed and three wounded when a missile hit their camp northeast of Fallujah.
Police captain Ahmad Faisal said three soldiers were also killed in clashes with unknown gunmen in the centre of Fallujah.
In Iraq's central city of Diwaniyah, three roadside bombs went off against a joint US-Iraqi military convoy, killing two Iraqi soldiers and wounding another two, police said.
In the restive province of Diyala, northeast of Baghdad, nine people were killed including six policemen in a string of attacks Thursday.
A roadside bomb exploded targeting the governor of Diyala, Raad Rasheed al-Mulla Juwad, killing one of his police bodyguards.
Two policemen and an officer were also killed in clashes with gunmen in the centre of Baquba.
In another clash with gunmen near a market in Baquba, two policemen were killed and two others wounded, including a civilian.
One civilian was killed and two others wounded in another attack on a police patrol in the Yarmuk neighbourhood of Baquba.
Two civilians were shot dead in separate attacks in Baquba's Tahrir neighbourhood.
