ANKARA - United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Administrator Kemal Dervis indicated that Turkey's gross national product (GNP) rose rapidly but social problems in the country continued.
After his meeting with Rifat Hisarciklioglu, chairman of the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in Ankara on Thursday, Dervis noted that while he was serving as a State Minister, they had meetings a lot in the smoky rooms, but thanks to the responsible attitudes of the Turkish society, Turkish private sector and public sector, such problems were overcome.
"The growth didn't create an adequate area of employment. Our desire is creation of an economic milieu which ensures growth with sound employment and industry but at the same time a milieu where the growth is shared" stressed Dervis.
Noting that they aim to expand the economic growth to the poor and ensure women's participation in the development process, Dervis said they want to work with TOBB in the future especially in the Balkans, Mediterranean, Palestine and Central Asia.
On the other hand Rifat Hisarciklioglu thanked Dervis for his past services and expressed that they were proud of appointment of Dervis as UNDP administrator.
