ANKARA - Yemeni Minister of Fisheries Mahmud Ibrahim Saghiri and an accompanying delegation who are in Turkey to hold talks with officials visited Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Mehmet Mehdi Eker.

A cooperation agreement in the field of fisheries was signed between Turkey and Yemen during the meeting.

Eker briefed the guest minister on the fishery products in Turkey and said 100 fish species of commercial value lived in the three seas surrounding Turkey.

Eker said approximately 550,000 tons of fish were netted in Turkey.

Stressing that the 167 million USD of trade volume in 2006 between the two countries was too low, Eker said "we can at least work towards increasing this volume of trade to 500 million USD."

The Yemeni minister said there were lots of Turkish companies operating in Yemen especially in the field of pharmaceutical and construction and invited Turkish businessmen from all sectors to make investments in his country.
