ANKARA - Following a tender for transfer of natural gas trade contracts (import contracts) to private sector, Turkish oil pipeline operator BOTAS will sign the first hand-over contract with Shell on February 28th.
A transfer protocol and a three-party trade contract will be signed by Shell, Gazprom and BOTAS. Thus, BOTAS will transfer its annual 250 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas import to Shell.
BOTAS was buying 250 mcm of natural gas a year from Russian Gazprom.
A supplementary insurance will also be signed after the protocol.
Moreover, a new trade agreement will be signed between Shell and supplier country Russia.
BOTAS will also sign import transfer contracts with Enerco (2,500 mcm), Avrasyagaz (500 mcm) and Bosphorus (750 mcm).
After these contracts, 4 billion cubic meters of gas will be transferred to private sector, creating an oligopolistic market in natural gas import.
