ANKARA - Turkey is set to commemorate May 19th, on the 88th anniversary of which Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the great leader and the founder of the Turkish Republic, first set foot in Samsun on the Black Sea coast to start the Turkish war of liberation.
May 19th Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day will be celebrated on Saturday throughout Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and in diplomatic missions of Turkey in foreign countries.
The first ceremony in Ankara will take place in Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk, with attendance of state dignitaries headed by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
Another ceremony will follow at the capital`s May 19th Stadium where soil from Ataturk`s house in Thessaloniki and the Turkish flag brought from Samsun will be delivered to President Sezer.
Ceremonies will be held also in TRNC and Turkey`s representations in foreign countries.
