Laura Bush, daughter Jenna to publish children's book
US First Lady Laura Bush and her daughter Jenna are writing a children's book about a mischievous schoolboy, due to be published later this year, publisher HarperCollins announced Thursday.
The picture book, which is so far without a title, is set in a school and tells the story of a young boy who doesn't like to read but ends up delving into books with the help and encouragement of his teacher.
"We know that their experiences as teachers will contribute in so many ways to this project," Susan Katz, President and Publisher of HarperCollins Children's Books, said in a statement announcing the deal.
The book, which is due to appear in English and Spanish, is set for release early next year. The authors' proceeds from the book will go to two national teacher programs: Teach for America and The New Teacher Project.
Laura Bush used to teach in the Texas public school system, while her daughter Jenna, 25, has taught at schools in Washington and has more recently been working as an intern with the UN children's agency in Panama.
Jenna Bush's first book, "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope," based on her experiences working for UNICEF in Latin America, is due to go on sale at the end of next month.
