Turkish Contractors Undertake Projects Worth 19 Bln U.S.D. In Foreign Countries, Tuzmen

ANKARA - Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said Monday Turkish contractors had undertaken projects over 19 billion USD in foreign countries, exceeding the year-end target of 17 billion USD for 2007.

"We want to raise this figure to 20 billion USD," he told participants of a ceremony in Ankara during which Turkish construction companies --which are among "world's greatest 225 international contractors"-- received their awards.

Tuzmen said Turkish contractors had implemented projects worth 7.4 billion USD in Commonwealth of Independent States particularly in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

According to Tuzmen, Turkey's contracting projects in African countries like Algeria, Morocco and Sudan were worth 5.7 billion USD, and they were 4.7 billion USD in Middle Eastern countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Tuzmen also said the projects Turkish businessmen undertook in EU countries like Romania and Ireland last year were over 1.3 billion USD.
