Pan-Islamic body condemns Bhutto assassination
JEDDAH - The largest pan-Islamic organisation condemned the assassination of Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto on Thursday saying it was an attack on the stability of Pakistan.
Ekmeleddin Ihsanogulu, secretary general of the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference, "condemned in the strongest terms the outrageous and brutal murder," a statement said.
He said the killing was "an attack on stability and peace in Pakistan and an open provovation aiming at derailing the efforts of unity, reconciliation and democratic process."
Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide attack in Rawalpindi earlier Thursday, just two months after she returned from exile for a political comeback. At least 20 people were killed in the attack and 56 wounded.
