Turkish Armed Forces In Afghanistan And Kosovo

ANKARA - Turkey continues to contribute to global peace since the Korean War as well as the recent peacekeeping operations in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has become a force sought in all parts of the world to support peace operations.

As part of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk`s directives that said "Peace at home, peace in the world", the TSK participates in all peace missions as mandated by the United Nations.

TSK`s aid made to Afghanistan in the re-construction of this country reached a value of 40 million USD by the end of March, 2008.

The TSK constructed 4 hospitals, 6 health clinics, 2 mobile clinics, and 27 elementary and junior high schools in Afghanistan.

The TSK helped the construction of 3 elementary schools, 1 people`s health clinic, 1 agricultural school, 2 cold storage facilities, 1 sports and entertainment complex, a children`s park and water storage facility in the Vardak region of Afghanistan.

Turkey provided scholarships to 160 Afghan university students studying in Turkey. Furthermore, the TSK distributed educational and food materials to 14,000 Afghan families and 8,000 Afghan children.

In Kosovo, the TSK helped the construction of various schools, repair of several village roads and the construction of water pipelines.
