Turkish Researchers' Achievement In Tissue Engineering
ANKARA - Turkish researchers at the Hacettepe University have made a significant achievement by adding nano-structures to polymers, a kind of plastic used in manufacturing of artificial tissues.
In an exclusive interview with the A.A, Prof. Dr. Olgun Guven of the Hacettepe University Department of Chemistry, said, "we have founded the first irradiation facility of Turkey. This technology enables us to make many chemical changes in or on the surface of plastic materials. Now, we are working to adapt irradiation technology to nanotechnology."
"Use of polymers has become prevalent in tissue engineering and biomedical areas. The system we developed in our research will be helpful especially in the area of medicine like manufacturing of artificial cornea. Our research also attracted attention of Japanese scientific circles. They want to work together with us," Guven added.
