Association Of Islamic States Slams International Embargo On Turkish Cypriot State

LEFKOSA - Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), condemned international embargo on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Secretary-General Ihsanoglu, who paid a visit to TRNC Foreign Minister Turgay Avci in Lefkosa on Monday, said that Turkish Cypriot people were punished, which was unfair.

He said OIC would continue to cooperate with Turkish Cypriot state and wished an immediate political settlement in the island, which would be a fair and bi-communal solution.

Turgay Avci thanked Ihsanoglu for his efforts to support TRNC in the international arena and said that increasing economic and cultural activities between TRNC and the OIC-member countries were encouraging despite international embargo on Turkish Cypriot people.

Avci also welcomed OIC`s call to member countries to ease restrictions on the Turkish Cypriot state.
