Australian Embassy Opens Exhibition On Anniversary Of Turkish Migration
ANKARA - The Australian Embassy in Ankara organized on Monday an exhibition to mark the anniversary of the migration of Turks to this country.
Ambassador Peter Doyle and his spouse Jennifer Doyle hosted the exhibition opened on the 40th anniversary of the migration of Turks into Australia.
The exhibition is depicting the conditions first Turkish migrants had to overcome in Australia, their accomplishments and their contributions to the multi-cultural life in Australia.
In the inauguration ceremony, ambassador Doyle said that his country was lucky to have Australians of Turkish origin, and told participants that Australia and Turkey were sharing a unique friendship.
The ambassador said that Australian Turkish community had an important role in improving strong ties between the two countries.
The exhibition will stay open till May 20th.
Australia and Turkey signed the first agreement that allowed Turkish people to migrate to this country to reside and work on October 5th, 1967.
Around 60,000 Australians of Turkish origin are living in this country today.
