Turkey And Austria Signs Joint Economic Comission Protocol
ANKARA - Turkey and Austria signed Wednesday the 6th Joint Economic Commission Protocol in Ankara.
The protocol was signed by Austrian Economy and Labour Minister Martin Bartenstein and Turkish Deputy PM Hayati Yazici.
Speaking at the signature ceremony, Bartenstein said the trade between the two countries had a rapidly rising trend. He said they estimated the trade volume between Turkey and Austria to reach 2 billion Euro by the end of 2008.
The Austrian Minister said energy was an important issue for them and expressed the need for increased momentum in the Nabucco pipeline project.
"We believe that the inter-governmental agreement for this project should be signed as soon as possible, and the Caspian natural gas should begin being pumped trough this line until 2013," said Bartenstein.
He said this project should only concern the transfer of natural gas, and not trade.
Commenting on Turkey's EU bid, Bartenstein said Austria would be loyal to its commitments.
Bartenstein invited Yazici to Austria for the 7th Turkey-Austria Joint Economic meeting.
