IZMIR - A Turkish student won an international poster design competition with her poster regarding whale hunting.
Aycin Turan, a communication design student from Turkey`s Izmir Economy University (IEU), came first at the "Good 50x70", an international poster design competition, with her poster titled "Beauty: Not Innocent As it Seems", the IEU said in a statement on Thursday.
Turan`s poster was competing with some other 2,700 posters from all around the world.
Good 50x70 is a project that helps social communication and aims to raise awareness among the community on several issues such as whale hunting, child mortality, global warming, human rights violation, war victims and water scarcity.
Turan`s poster, along with other posters selected by an international jury, will be exhibited around the world and published in a catalog. Posters will also be presented to the charities such as Greenpeace, Unicef and WWF, for their use as a potential campaign.
Aycin Turan said she wanted to highlight economic activities that encourage whale hunting in her poster.
"Lots of cosmetics products contain whale fat and people are unaware that they contribute to whale hunting while buying these products," she warned.
