Downer: I Am Disgusted
Statements of Alexander Downer Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General in a meeting with a group of 25 Greek Cypriots last week were reacted by some Greek Cypriot politicians.
According to the news of Phileleftheros, a Greek Cypriot Daily, in the meeting, Downer mentioned a new referenda and its acceptance with a support of 53 %.
According to the allegations in the news report, in the meeting, Downer said that he was disgusted, while he was reading Greek Cypriot dailies Phileleftheros, Simerini and channels, ANT 1, Sigma TV.
On the other hand, in his statement on the issue, Dimitris Silluris, Head of EVRO.KO, said that Downer’s intervention in South Cyprus’ internal affairs was unacceptable. He added that 25 people, who made a restricted meeting with Downer, were supporters of the Annan Plan.
Furthermore, both Ionas Nikolau, Deputy Head of DISI and Fotis Fotiu, Official Spokesman of the DIKO said that Downer’s statements were unacceptable.
