ANTALYA - A total of 4,735,247 tourists arrived in the Mediterranean province of Antalya via airway during the first 7 months of 2009, officials said on Monday.
According to Antalya's Provincial Directorate for Culture and Tourism, nearly 1.5 million tourists arrived in the International Flights Terminal of Antalya Airport in July 2009, while 4,735,247 tourists came to the city via airway since the beginning of the year.
In an interview with A.A, Sururi Corabatir, head of Mediterranean Touristic Hotel Operators' Association (AKTOB), said that the number of tourists visiting Turkey dropped by 7 percent and hotels' revenues decreased compared to the same period of last year.
"Despite the global economic crisis, Turkey receives a significant number of tourists. Tourists prefer Turkey thanks to the advantageous prices it offers," he said.
Corabatir also said that measures for the upcoming year should be taken now.
