Turkey’s EU negotiator congratulates EU’s first President
State Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis wished success to newly-elected EU President Herman van Rompuy and new foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
Bagis said: “As a negotiator country, Turkey will continue its support to the EU as its member in the future in its efforts to be a global actor.”
Making a written statement regarding the election result in Brussels yesterday, the Turkish Chief Negotiator noted that Turkey has always taken part in the discussions regarding the bloc’s future and will do so.
Reminding the expectation that the EU remains loyal to the decisions taken by unanimity, Bagis underlined the determination on concluding the reform and accession talks process with full membership.
Egemen Bagis also expressed his belief in the first President and high representative’s appreciation of Turkey’s determination and contributions to the EU and advancement of Turkey’s full membership process which will benefit both the bloc and Turkey.
