Winning ticket for record US prize sold in Maryland: MSNBC

A winning ticket for a record $640 million US lottery prize was sold in the state of Maryland, MSNBC television reported early Saturday.

The winning numbers -- 2, 4, 23, 38, 46 with Mega Ball 23 -- were announced here at 11:00 pm (0300 GMT Saturday).

It was not immediately clear if the Maryland ticket was the only one to win the gigantic jackpot.

There has been no official announcement from Mega Millions lottery. MSNBC cited an unnamed Maryland lottery official in reporting the news.

Experts warned it could be days before somebody shows up to claim the prize as winners usually tend to clarify all the legal issues with their lawyers before taking that step.
