FOREIGN MINISTER ÖZGÃœRGÃœN: “CURRENT PROCESS OF NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE UNIFICATION OF CYPRUS HAS COME TO A VIRTUAL DEADLOCK BECAUSE OF THE INTRANSIGENCE AND UNCOMPROMISING GREEK CYPRIOT POLICIES”

Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün’s statements during his meeting with foreign journalists in July were published at the Times of Oman newspaper.

Özgürgün briefed foreign journalists who were in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to attend the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day celebrations.

The Times of Oman which is one of the prestigious newspapers in the Middle East quoted Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün as saying that the current process of negotiations for the unification of Cyprus, has come to a virtual deadlock because of the intransigence and uncompromising Greek Cypriot policies.

The paper wrote that the TRNC, which has been formally established in 1983 is a fully democratic state and peace exists on both sides of the island.

11 ORGANISATIONS WILL ARRANGE A PROTEST TO SUPPORT ASIL NADIR

It was stated that 11 organizations including Chamber of Agricultural Engineers will arrange a protest on 3rd September to support the Turkish Cypriot businessman Asil Nadir. They aim to announce their demand for a fair trial of Asil Nadir.

Representatives of the related organizations will issue a letter to British High Commissioner and UN Peace Force in Cyprus to announce their demand.

VICE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION WILL COME TOGETHER WITH TURKISH AND GREEK CYPRIOT POLITICAL PARTY REPRESENTATIVES TODAY

Vice President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic will come together with the representatives of some Turkish-Greek Cypriot political parties and non governmental organizations during the bi-communal activity at Ledra Palace Hotel today.

It was stated that bi-communal activity will be organized within the context of bi-communal routine meetings of Slovakia Embassy in South Cyprus.

RUSSIA REACTS TO BRITISH BASES

It was stated that Russia reacted to British Bases in the South due to the fact that they tried to gather information about rebellion in Syria.

Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros noted that in the announcement published at web page of Russian Foreign Ministry, it was expressed that any military, informatics and other aids will make negative contribution to the region.

Fileleftheros also noted that Greek Cypriot Parliament will discuss British Base’s usage with the aim of spying.

A GREEK CYPRIOT FAMILY SUES AGAINST GREEK CYPRIOT ADMINISTRATION IN ECHR

The family of Mihalis Iraklius who lost his life in the explosion which took place in "Evangelos Florakis Naval Base” in Mari village, Larnaca in South Cyprus, has sued Greek Cypriot administration at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as it has been stated by the Greek Cypriot daily Politis.

The newspaper stated that family of Iraklius brought a suit on the grounds that a police inquiry has not been made concerning the explosion and that the responsible persons from the explosion have not assumed the said responsibilities.

RUSSIA IS COMPLAINANT AGAINST GREEK CYPRIOT ADMINISTRATION

It has been stated that Russia has criticized Greek Cypriot administration in the case of “Russian Oksana Randseva” who found dead in her flat in South Cyprus after 12 days later she arrived in the island in 2001.

Based on the Russian sources, Greek Cypriot daily Alithia stated that the results of the investigations made for the clarification of the reason of Oksana’s death was not verified. The newspaper also recorded that an informing report was sent to the European Commission Ministers Committee by Russia.

In the report it was stated that the inquiry made by Greek Cypriot administration concerning the death reason of Oksana was insufficient, so they made their own inquiry in order to confirm whether the death of Oksana was an activity of a gang of human trafficking.
