Bagis receives delegation from European Parliament’s subcommitee on Human Rights
During a meeting held with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights, Turkey’s EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that the recently adopted laws in Turkey were sufficient for opening of the 19th chapter, namely, the social policies and employment, and that Ireland, which is set to take over the rotating EU term presidency, was also welcoming opening of that chapter.
Bagis also noted that Irish officials have also indicated that they were in favor of opening at least one chapter in Turkey’s negotiations with the EU in their term presidency.
“But of course the countries hindering the opening of such chapters should be convinced and relevant members of the Commission should make contributions to the process,” Bagis said, adding that he has been receiving positive signals from France on the issue as well.
