First convoy of aid materials begins journey
The IHH Humanitarian Aid Foundation sent the first convoy of 33 trucks laden with 850 tonnes of flour to Syrian civilians on Thursday as part of the "bread and blanket for Syria" campaign.
The convoy of trucks began their journey from Istanbul with a ceremony following the prayer of the Mufti of Istanbul, Rahmi Yaran.
Bulent Yildirim, head of the IHH said demand for flour was the indicator of hunger limit and called on everybody to contribute to the aid campaign.
The convoy is expected to reach the Turkish-Syrian border on Saturday.
All flour will be distributed to Syrians in cities like Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Damascus and Latakia.
Around 300 non-governmental organizations, Turkish Red Crescent Aid Society, Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) and Turkish Religious Foundation (TDV) continue to support the aid campaign for Syrians.
