The 12th National People’s Congress (NPC), starting on Tuesday, plays a crucial role in China’s future since the top Chinese officials including country’s president, vice president, state councilors and government ministers will be selected during legislative session of the congress.
Deputies to the 12th National People’s Congress elected a 178-people presidium and set s 16-article agenda for the legislative session. They also elected a secretary general who will take charge of the procedures during the session.
During the congress, which is scheduled to last 12 days, deputies will assess government’s work report on national, social and economic development plans and discuss local and central budgets.
During legislative session, deputies will elect China’s top officials including president and vice president, premier, vice premiers, state councilors and government ministers.
After the congress, the Communist Party chief Xi Jinping is expected to assume country’s presidency as Li Keqiang will replace Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
