UN High Commissioner for Refugees Guterres in Ankara
Number of Syrian refugees in Turkey may go up by 2-3 fold by end-2013, said Guterres
UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres said that the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey may go up by 2-3 fold by end-2013.
Speaking at a press conference after meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Guterres indicated that what the UN did for Syrian refugees was very little compared to what Turkey did and provided for the Syrians.
Countries such as Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan expect more solidarity from the international community for the Syrian refugees and they deserve this, Guterres stressed.
"There is a possibility that the problem in Syria may spread to the region," Guterres also said.
There are more than 185,000 Syrian refugees living in 17 Turkish camps.
