Public officials kidnapped by PKK released
Eight public officials who had been kidnapped by the outlawed PKK several months ago were released and reunited with their families on Wednesday.
The PKK handed over the kidnapped officials to a delegation that had traveled to northern Iraq on Tuesday to secure their release.
The delegation consisted of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Hakkari deputy Adil Kurt and Bitlis deputy Husamettin Zenderlioglu, Association of Human Rights and Solidarity for Oppressed Peoples (MAZLUM-DER) President Ahmet Faruk Unsal and his deputy Selahattin Coban, President of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Ozturk Turkdogan and IHD Diyarbakir branch President Raci Bilici.
President Abdullah Gul who was in an official visit to Sweden at that time said he was pleased by the release of public officials. “This is obviously good. The return of our citizens who have been away from their country and from whom we have not heard of for long is pleasing,” Gul said.
