Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf visits Fittja Mosque in Stockholm
STOCKHOLM - Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia has paid a visit to the Fittja Grand Mosque in Stockholm, the Muslim worship place where Sweden's first-ever call to prayer was heard last week.
King Gustaf on Saturday visited centers belonging various cultures in celebration of the 40th anniversary of his coronation.
His schedule also included Fittja Grand Mosque, where Muslim worshippers waiting for the congregational Friday prayer last week heard the first-ever call to prayer to be recited inSweden.
The mosque represents a blend of influences from the Turkish, Ottoman and Swedish architectural styles.
Officials of the mosque said they were pleased with the 20-minute visit by the King and Queen of Sweden.
