UN Security Council to discuss Wednesday's massacre in Egypt
UNITED NATIONS - UN Security Council will gather at 17.30 (New York local time) concerning Wednesday's massacre in Egypt.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson will inform the council on the matter, said UN Secretary-General spokesman's office Thursday.
Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon condemned Wednesday the police assault on civilians in Egypt 'in a violent move to disperse the two main pro-Morsi sit-ins in capital Cairo's Rabaa al-Adawiya Square and Giza's Nahda Square'.
"While the UN is still gathering precise information about today's events, it appears that hundreds of people were killed or wounded in clashes between security forces and demonstrators," Ban said in a statement Wednesday.
Death toll in Egypt rose to 578, Egypt's Health Ministry announced Thursday while eyewitnesses give higher number of deaths.
