Rescue operation on its way as eight military personnel and two workers are taken to hospital, says governor
IZMIR - A tugboat keeled over and killed 17 people while being launched to sea in the Turkish western city of Izmir.
After its maintenance service at the Alaybey military shipyard, the "TCG Degirmendere" tugboat was being launched to sea when it keeled over.
Speaking to AA, the governor said eight military personnel and two workers were wounded after the incident as air and sea rescue operations were on the way to discover if others remained on the tugboat or in the sea.
A floating crane in Izmir harbour was also sent to the shipyard to save the tugboat.
Two of the wounded were discharged from the hospital later.
