TRNC President plays down Cyprus agreement

LEFKOSA - President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Dervis Eroglu has met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Friday in Ankara to discuss the long-awaited unification talks and bilateral relations between the two countries.
Eroglu believes that the pre-condition agreement, expected to be reached soon, would not help that much, considering that a number of issues are waiting to be negotiated in Cyprus.
"We have to make evaluations with political parties on the assembly," Eroglu said.
Earlier this week, Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades announced that "serious prospects" have been achieved regarding the talks over the reunification of the divided island.
Eroglu is also expected to have talks with Parliament speaker Cemil Cicek and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday.
TRNC was established in 1983. The Mediterranean island has been partitioned since 1974 when a military coup that attempted to unify the island with Greece was followed by a Turkish military intervention.
