First day in Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics

ANKARA - The first day of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics ended on Saturday.
In the Ladies' Skiathlon 7.5 km Classic + 7.5 km Free, Norwegian Marit Bjoergen won the gold medal, the runner-up was a Swedish athlete, Charlotte Kalla got the silver medal, and the bronze medal went to Norwegian Heidi Weng and the Turkish athlete Kelime Cetinkaya completed the race in last place.
In the Ladies' Mogul Final 3, Canadian Dufour-Lapointe sisters Justine and Chloe put a firm stamp each on the first day by winning medals for their country. Winner Justine Dufour-Lapointe received the golden, and Chloe won the silver medal, in addition US athlete Hannah Kearney came in third and earned the bronze medal.
Dutch athletes dominated the Men's 5000m Speed Skating. Sven Kramer won the race and the golden medal, his fellow citizens Jan Blokhuijsen won the silver and Jorrit Bergsma came in third securng the bronze medal. Meanwhile in Men's Sprint 10 km, 40-year-old Ole Einar Bjoerndalen was the winner of the race and the gold medal. While 25-year-old Austrian Dominik Landertinger was the runner up, takinf home the silver medal and Czech Jaroslav Soukup, who finished the competition in third won the bronze medal.
Lastly in the snowboard category, US athlete Sage Kotsenburg completed the event as the winner, runner-up Staale Sandbech from Norway got the silver medal and Canadian Mark McMorris completed the race in third place and won the bronze medal.
On Sunday the athletes will compete against each other in 8 disciplines: Alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country, figure skating, ice hockey, luge, ski jumping, snowboard and speed skating.
