Real Madrid make final in Copa del Rey

MADRID - In the Madrid derby, Real Madrid defeated their rivals Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the second leg of the semi-final match of Copa del Rey (King's Cup) at Atletico's home ground Vicente Calderon on Tuesday. Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo's two goals from penalty kicks made Real Madrid advance to the final.
Atletico Madrid's many regular players were not selected by the Argentine coach Diego Simeone. Players such as Turkish winger Arda Turan, Spanish central midfielder Gabi and Uruguayan centre-back Godin did not play against Real Madrid. In addition, Brazilian forward Diego Costa was suspended for the match and Spanish forward David Villa, 21-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Brazilian left-back Filipe Luis and Portuguese midfielder Tiago did not play due to their injuries.
During the match, Atletico Madrid's 19-year-old Spanish right-back, Javier Manquillo was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. His collision with Cristiano Ronaldo during a header resulted in a dangerous fall on his neck.
Meanwhile, after the result at Vicente Calderon Stadium against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid's Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas extended his clean sheet record to 862 minutes.
Other matches in the semi-final of the tournament will be played between Catalan giants Barcelona and Basque team Real Sociedad in San Sebastian. The match kicks off at 21:00 CET on Wednesday 12 February 2014.
