Tunisian security forces on Friday arrested a Salafist over alleged involvement in "terrorist" acts in Chaambi mountains area of western central Tunisia, on the border with Algeria.

TUNIS - Tunisian security forces on Friday arrested a Salafist over alleged involvement in "terrorist" acts in Chaambi mountains area of western central Tunisia, on the border with Algeria.

"Security forces have detained a hardline Salafist in Kasreen province," a security source told Anadolu Agency.

The Salafist, aka Abu Talha, is accused of involvement in terrorist acts, the source said.

The Tunisian army and police have launched a wide-scale security operation in Chaambi mountains in an attempt to flush out militants there.
