ANKARA - Ankara expects Amsterdam to continue to support Turkey's bid to accelerate its EU accession process during the Netherlands' term as European president, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said after a meeting with visiting Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans on Friday in Ankara.

Gul, referring to previous visits, said the two countries have good relations.

Timmermans, on the sidelines of the annual Turkey-Netherlands Conference held to advance cooperation between the two countries, said Amsterdam attaches great importance to its relations with Turkey.

The Netherlands' Turkish community currently amounts to 400,000 and is one of the country's most enterprising communities, Timmermans said.

He also expressed open support for the opening of new chapters to revive Turkey's EU accession process.

President Gul also met visiting Qatari Emir Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani.
