SUEZ CITY - Egyptian authorities on Wednesday renewed the detention of a Turkish national by 45 days for the 11th time since his arrest last August.

Resat Ozturk, 46, was arrested on August 19 in the canal city of Suez on suspicion of attempting to obtain information about Egypt's national security and having links with Muslim Brotherhood.

Ozturk, who works in the textile industry, has emphatically denies the charges, saying he had only come to know Muslim Brotherhood members via social-networking websites.

The authorities had earlier renewed Ozturk's detention ten times, for 15- and 30-day periods each, pending investigation.

The last time his detention was renewed was on January 15.
