MOGADISHU - Two car bomb blasts rocked the presidential palace and a prison in Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday, security sources and eyewitnesses said.
An explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into the presidential palace`s gates, a security source told Anadolu Agency.
The militants also used a booby-trapped car in attacking a prison compound in Mogadishu, where militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab group are held, the source said.
Clashes ensued between the attackers and guards of the presidential palace and the prison, according to eyewitnesses.
No information is yet available about casualties.
Somalia has remained in the grip of political violence since the outbreak of civil war in 1991.
The country situation had appeared to have improved recently with the installation of a new government and intervention by African Union troops tasked with countering Al-Shabaab`s activity.
