ANKARA - Companies have begun bidding in the tender for Turkey`s first military-purpose satellite project.

Earlier, Turkish Undersecretariat of Defense Industry (SSM) opened a tender on "Gokturk" reconnaissance and surveillance satellite system.

Eads Astrium of Britain, IAI of Israel, Ohb-System of Germany and Telespazio of Italy submitted their bids.

The project "Gokturk" includes the in-orbit delivery of one optical reconnaissance satellite, plus one fixed and one mobile ground station.

SSM published a request for bids from Turkish and foreign companies interested in providing a turnkey optical satellite surveillance system, with a bid deadline set for November 17th, 2006.
