Luxembourger Minister Meets Turkish Finance Minister

ANKARA - Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said on Monday that Turkey should set up a program which would take budget deficits into consideration more than stand-by deals with the IMF.

"Turkey should take Maastricht criteria as basis," added Unakitan during his meeting with Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Jeannot Krecke of Luxembourg in Ankara.

Unakitan said that according to Maastricht criteria, budget deficit should not be over three percent of gross national product.

Also guest minister said that they would focus on financial relations between Turkey and Luxembourg during the meetings.

Krecke said that his country attached importance to Turkey, and was closely following its fiscal and monetary policies.
