Turkey to send urgent aid to Kyrgyzstan

Turkish relief agency, Turk Kizilayi (Red Crescent), will send urgent humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan.

The Red Crescent said in a statement on Monday that at least 100 people lost their lives and more than 1,500 others were injured in the country's worst ethnic violence in decades in the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad that prompted thousands to flee to Uzbekistan.

"Some 75 thousand people gathered in an area in the border region. Kyrgyz government called on the international community to send urgent foodstuff and medical equipment," it said.

Turkish Red Crescent will send humanitarian aid including foodstuffs, medicine and medical equipment by an Antonow-12 cargo plane to Kyrgyz city of Osh on Monday.
