Turkey`s president congratulates new Kyrgyz prime minister

Turkish President Abdullah Gul congratulated on Tuesday Almazbek Atambayev on his assuming the prime minister`s office in Kyrgyzstan.

Gul spoke to Atambayev by phone, and told the new Kyrgyz prime minister that he had assumed that position with a strong vote of confidence.

President Gul said Turkey would continue to support the initiatives of the Kyrgyz government, and underlined importance of Atambayev`s assuming an approach embracing every one and having good relations with other neighboring countries, particularly Kazakhstan.

During the phone talk, Gul expressed his belief that the new government would contribute to dynamic development and progress of Kyrgyzstan.

Social Democrat Party leader Almazbek Atambayev was named premier Friday with 92 out of 114 votes. His appointment ends a political deadlock after last month`s election that produced a new and empowered parliament that can approve agovernment and appoint a prime minister.

Atambayev, 44, already served as premier under President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, but resigned in 2007 to join the opposition.
