ISTANBUL - Turkish NGO IHH Relief Foundation sent 229 trucks of aid from Turkey to Syria on Sunday as part of the "For the Vicinity Rights" and "I need you!" campaigns, launched to help Syrian refugees and civil war victims, the group's head Bulent Yildirim said.

"154 trucks from 59 provinces of Turkey are departing simultaneously."

"So far, 2,300 trucks of humanitarian aid have been sent to Syria," he said.

Yildirim added that between January 1 and February 23, 817 trucks of aid had been collected.

IHH is active in more than 100 countries.

He criticized international public opinion over the Syrian civil war saying, "If the massacres were in Europe or the United States, international news channels would publish the photos for days."

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and Kurdish Democratic Union Party are trying to prevent aid from reaching Syria, Yildirim said while reiterating that the organization is trying to indiscriminately deliver aid to civilians.
