LONDON - In response to the latest developments from Ukraine, British Prime Minister David Cameron said that every country should respect the integrity and the sovereignty of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a meeting at Number 10 Downing Street on Thursday to discuss the latest developments from Ukraine.

"We both support a united and democratic Ukraine," said Cameron, adding that that both the UK and Germany support the aspirations of the Ukrainian people to live in a truly democratic society under the rule of law, free from corruption and intimidation.

As the political turmoil in Ukraine has spread to its autonomous Crimea region on Thursday, Cameron stressed that both leaders were "particularly concerned by the situation in Crimea".

Cameron added: “Russia has made a commitment and it is important that Russia keeps its word, the world will be watching."

-“Hope of Russia to support cooperation with IMF"

Angela Merkel pointed out that the Ukrainian government is facing a "tremendously difficult economic situation".

"All of Ukraine must see itself reflected in the work of the new government."

Merkel said they are hoping that Russia is supporting its cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the framework of giving Ukraine financial support, and that the territorial integrity of Ukraine was of "central importance".

"We know that about 15 million people of Russian origin live in Ukraine and they have to find themselves in the hands of the government as much as everyone else," Merkel said.

In addition, IMF`s Managing Director Christine Lagarde said on Thursday that Ukraine has asked for its support; the world body is expected to send a team to Kiev shortly to discuss ongoing action.
