MOGADISHU â€“ The Turkish ambassador in Mogadishu announced on Thursday that his country would soon start implementing development projects in the northeastern Puntland region.
Ambassador Cemalettin Kani Torun paid today a one-day visit to the region, which has been enjoying autonomous rule since 1998.
Torun said he was happy visiting the region, expecting Turkish development projects in Puntland soon.
During his visit, Torun met with Puntland president Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gas, who was elected in January, as well as a host of the region's ministers.
Gas, for his part, hoped Turkey would support the region through development projects.
Turkey is sponsoring a host of educational and health projects in Somalia.
