BAGHDAD – At least three people were killed in separate attacks in northern Iraqi on Friday, according to security sources.

Militants broke into the home of a local council official in the northern Diyala province, shooting him and another man dead, security sources told Anadolu Agency.

Security forces immediately rushed to the area and are hunting down the attackers, added the sources.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and another injured when an explosive charge went off inside a home in the northern city of Kirkuk, according to security sources.

At least 45 Iraqis were killed in a series of attacks on Thursday, including 33 in the capital Baghdad alone.

Recent months have witnessed an uptick in violence across Iraq.

Although most attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually point the finger at Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
