French FM threatens Russia with sanctions

PARIS – The new sanctions against Russia over Crimea and on Ukraine will be announced and imposed this week,  the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Tuesday during France Inter radio’s interview in Paris.

Fabius emphasized that the implementation of sanctions depends on Russia’s response to Western proposals to solve the crisis in Crimea.

Fabius said, “Russia's attitude on Ukraine is unacceptable, and the Crimea Referendum which will be held on March 16 is totally illegal”, and added that if Russia responds positively in changing its offensive attitude on Ukraine, any consultations on imposing sanctions can be suspended.
