Uzbek president’s daughter being investigated

GENEVA - The Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s Office has said it is investigating Gulnara Karimova, the eldest daughter of the president of Uzbekistan, regarding money laundering.

The Swiss prosecutor has widened a current investigation which was launched in 2012 and centered on four people with ties to the Uzbek president Karimova to include his daughter.

The Swiss authorities said they have been investigating her since September 2013 and had searched her villa outside Geneva, although she is believed to have left Switzerland last year after her role as Uzbekistan’s permanent envoy to the UN was terminated.

In connection with the investigation an amount totaling 800 million Swiss Francs ($910.5 million) has been frozen although the origin of the money is not yet clear, the prosecutor’s office have said.
