ALGIERS – Algeria's Energy Minister Youcef Yousfi was named the country's Prime Minister on Thursday, replacing Abdelmalek Sellal.

In a statement, the Algerian Presidency said that Yousfi was selected to lead the government, replacing Sellal, who was picked up by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to run his campaign for Algeria's presidential elections, which are expected to be held on April 17.

Yousfi, 72, will keep his energy portfolio besides the post of the prime minister, the presidency's statement said.

Six Algerians, including ageing Bouteflika, are expected to compete for Algeria's top post on April 17.
