Turkish Airlines released a statement denying allegations of weapons shipment

ISTANBUL – Turkish Airlines (THY) denies allegations that it shipped weapons to countries in conflict, according to a statement from the company on Wednesday.

THY released the statement after stories in the Turkish press and social media emerged Tuesday evening claiming the airlines had carried weapons to countries that the United Nations Security Council has banned the import of weapons to.

The statement also said the airline had acted according to International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) weapons and material carrying procedures.

“Turkish Airlines, in accordance with company policy, does not ship weapons to countries that suffer from an authority vacuum or who are in conflict and who are banned by the United Nation Security Council. There have been no weapon shipments from Turkey to the country mentioned in the claims,” said the THY statement.
