CAIRO – Ahmed Assaf, spokesman for the Palestinian Fatah movement, was pelted with eggs in Cairo on Wednesday as he prepared to enter official news agency MENA for an interview.
Three people hurled eggs at Assaf as he prepared to enter MENA's headquarters in downtown Cairo, while a fourth managed to photograph the incident, a MENA official said.
"Assaf was rushed into the building while security guards chased the men and arrested two of them," the official told Anadolu Agency, requesting anonymity.
One of the mencarried a Palestinian ID card, according to the official.
Assaf cancelled a planned interview on Egypt's privately-owned Dream TV networkon Tuesday to answer accusations leveled by sacked Fatah leader Mohamed Dahlan against Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The decision to cancel the interview was attributed to channel officials'insistence on hosting a Dahlan loyalist on the show.
